1980 - Allen - Allen is the second of only two hurricanes in the recorded history of the Atlantic basin to achieve sustained winds of 190 mph (305 km/h), after Hurricane Camille in 1969.
1984 - Diana - Diana was the first hurricane to strike a nuclear power plant in North Carolina without incident; it was also the first major hurricane to strike the U.S. East Coast in nearly 20 years.
